Create Your Own Body Scrub in a Make & Take Body Scrub Workshop

Have you ever been curious about creating your own skincare product from the ground up? I often host DIY body scrub workshops, and they are truly enchanting. There's a profound sense of satisfaction in combining natural ingredients by hand, fully aware of what you're applying to your skin. If you're interested in natural skincare or simply seeking a fun, creative activity, these workshops are perfect for you.

Why Join a DIY Body Scrub Workshop?

Initially, when participants register for the workshop, they may feel uncertain about what lies ahead. Will it be difficult? Will they make mistakes? However, the friendly and inviting environment I create soon helps everyone feel comfortable. The charm of a Make & Take DIY body scrub workshop lies in its inclusivity, catering to both skincare beginners and experienced natural beauty enthusiasts alike.

Workshop Overview

In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create their own customized scrubs. Although I do not focus on teaching specific benefits, I provide a booklet for viewing that contains relevant information.

Customization Process

  • Participants will learn how to mix various ingredients to create their scrubs.

  • They can choose from a selection of scents, with the option to mix two scents together.

  • Each participant can name their unique fragrance.

Takeaway

At the end of the workshop, participants will take home their personalized scrubs, which they can either enjoy themselves or gift to someone special.

It’s not just about making a product; it’s about connecting with your skin and your creativity. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to unwind and treat yourself to some self-care.

What Happens in a Body Scrub Making Class?

The workshop I host is practical and engaging. I guide participants through every step, explaining the reason for choosing each ingredient and its benefits for the skin. We begin with their selection of the base exfoliant. Next, they will use the carrier oil that was chosen when they registered for each offers unique nourishing properties.

Workshop Experience

A highlight for me was leading the experimentation with essential oils. The room was filled with the scents of lavender, peppermint, and citrus as participants crafted their own unique scents. Others chose to mix fragrances together, which smelt divine. It felt like we were all concocting experiments like scientists.

Workshop Insights

As the instructor, I provide advice on effectively using the scrub at home, including the recommended frequency for exfoliation and how to store the scrub to maintain its freshness. It was comforting to realize that this was not merely a one-time craft but a skill that participants could repeatedly utilize.

Ingredients That Make Your Scrub Special

Benefits of Natural Ingredients in Scrubs

One aspect I particularly enjoy is explaining the benefits of scrubs as a whole (once the product is made). I have listed the essential components (natural ingredients) and their advantages for my scrubs:

  • Brown Sugar: Acts as a natural exfoliant, helping to remove dead skin cells and promote smoother skin. Moisturizing and improves circulation with anti-aging properties. (Softer and more hydrating than white sugar; more ideal for sensitive or facial skin.)

  • Sugar: Acts as a natural exfoliant, helping to remove dead skin cells and promote smoother skin. Moisturizing and improves circulation with anti-aging properties. (Coarser, larger particles better suited for intense body exfoliation on rough areas.)

  • Virgin Coconut Oil: Provides deep/intensive hydration and nourishment, leaving the skin soft and moisturized; great for dry skin and makes a thick creamy texture.

  • Fractionated Coconut Oil: Provides hydration and nourishment, leaving the skin soft and moisturized; ideal for oily/acne-prone skin with a longer shelf life.

  • Sweet Almond Oil: Rich in vitamins, it soothes and nourishes.

  • Jojoba Oil: Mimics the skin's natural oils, making it an excellent moisturizer that absorbs easily without clogging pores.

  • Magnesium Oil: Aids in repairing damaged skin, reducing irritation and lowering cortisol levels that cause inflammation, supports a healthy moisture barrier on skin.

  • Vegetable Glycerin: Draws moisture into the skin, enhances hydration.

  • Dead Sea Salt: A natural mineral that helps to draw out impurities and can improve circulation when used in scrubs.

  • Pink Himalayan Salt: Deep exfoliation and helps remove dead cells, contains over 80 trace minerals, which helps nourish, hydrate and improve skin elasticity, great detox.

  • Epsom Salt: Effective at soothing sore muscles, reducing tension, assists in reducing skin inflammation, itching, and soothing sunburns, improves absorption of nutrients and contributes to better skin barrier function.

  • Essential Oils: Such as lavender or tea tree oil, can add fragrance and offer additional skin benefits, like calming or antibacterial properties.

Mixing these ingredients in the right proportions is key. Too much oil can make the scrub greasy, while too little can leave it dry and crumbly. The workshop gave me the confidence to experiment and find the perfect balance for my skin.

How Making Your Own Scrub Changes Your Skincare Routine

Following the workshop, I observed a change in some of my participants approach to skincare. Using a scrub that they created themselves felt more personal and deliberate. They were not merely adhering to a routine; they were nurturing their skin with something made from their own love and understanding.

Here are some ways making your own scrub can enhance your routine:

  • Customization: Tailor the scrub to your skin’s needs and your scent preferences.

  • Transparency: Know exactly what’s in your product, avoiding harsh chemicals.

  • Sustainability: Use eco-friendly ingredients and reusable containers.

  • Relax: The process encourages slowing down and appreciating the time for self-care.

It’s a small change that can make a big difference in how you feel about your skin and your daily rituals.
